Thought I'd blog about this little question, since I get asked so often. What is Scraperboard? Well it's basically white ivory board with a thick black coating on top which you scratch away - hence the name! This very old medium is starting to regain some popularity in art stores who sell a lot of childrens packs, they come in many varieties and normally with a small wooden scratch tool. If your child is old enough, purchase some proper scratchboard tools as they will get a much better result and not give up so easily.If you are looking for a more polished result, you are better off purchasing the real deal in large sheets. There are many artist quality scraperboards around but you probably won't find them in your local art supply store.
